You may have
heard that bowling is an activity that all ages can enjoy - a statement that's
proven by Manteca Bowl and Family Fun Centre senior bowling
league member Barbara Van Tol.
Mrs Van Tol,
who hails from Ripon, California, is just one year away from being 100 years old,
yet has proven she's still formidable competition at the bowling alley.
According to
the Manteca Bulletin, 99-year-old Mrs Van Tol competes regularly in the
Thursday Senior League at the Manteca Bowl and Family Fun Centre in California,
and maintains a 115 average. She's been known to start her game off with a
strike, and has an impressive best score of 200.
Mrs Van Tol
has been bowling within California for over 25 years. Despite her age, she
still manages to give her competitors a run for their money.
It's not
just Mrs Van Tol who combines old age with bowling alley fun - there are six
other bowlers in her senior bowling league aged over 80.
There are
even more elderly bowlers in the senior bowling league held on Tuesdays. Of the
144 members, 16 are aged over 80, and all regularly compete against younger
counterparts - and we're sure they compete with success!
According to
Mrs Van Tol's family, she keeps herself active not only by bowling, but also by
completing jigsaw puzzles and crossword puzzles.
Bowlers such
as Mrs Van Tol just prove that there's no limit to who can get involved in the
sport. If you've been considering joining a bowling league, don't let anything
hold you back - it truly is a game for everyone!
Bowling is
all about fun, staying active and making new friends along the way - with a
little competitiveness thrown in the mix. If Mrs Van Tol has inspired you to
join a bowling league yourself, don't hesitate to contact your local AMF centre
today. We've got plenty of league options, so there is bound to be something to
suit you!
